Pet Ownership Essay Many people now keep dogs and cats as companions. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of pet ownership for the animals involved and for the community as a whole. Dogs and cats can be delightful buddies but there are also a number of complications linked with possession of pets, both for the community and the animal. In great conditions, pets are fed, cherished and loved, like a family member. Itââ¬â¢s easy to see how much care is given to pets. Cats and dogs contribute to the public in numerous ways. Dogs are beneficial in guarding a house and assist directions for blind people. Owning pets not only makes you more cheerful and healthier but also maybe even extend your life. Therefore, owning pets not only benefits the owner but also the community. Likewise, youngsters can to develop responsibility at an early age through helping in the care of their familys pet, elderly folks have company and something to do when their children have all moved out and made their own families. Conversely, there are negatives for the pets and community. Dogs and cats have limited freedom. Pet owners are needed to clean up after their pets. Parks and beaches often provide lavatories for this purpose. The community also has to take in dogs and cats that have been abandoned by irresponsible owners. Some irresponsible or selfish pet owners allow too much freedom for their animals which can upset neighbors if their garden is disrupted, some pet owners never correctly train their animals so certain behavioral issues such as extreme barking or aggression can be an issue between neighbors as well. The Kitchen Gods Wife and The Bingo Palace :: comparison compare contrast essays
Mythology, Luck, and Fate in The Kitchen God's Wife and The Bingo Palaceà à à à à à à In Amy Tan's novel, The Kitchen God's Wife, the author weaves Chinese mythology and beliefs through a woman's struggle to explain and come to terms with her harrowing past, to her American daughter, Pearl. Aside from the horror invoked by Winnie's tale of her life in Pre-Communist/Feudal China, the thing that struck me the most about this book was how often the themes of luck and fate crop up in the story. I often found that Winnie reminded me of the character Lipsha from Louise Erdrich's novel, The Bingo Palace in that both characters seemed to believe that their lives were controlled more by luck/fate than by their own will. While the similarities between the two books do exist, they are very different stories dealing with two cultures far removed from each other in location, beliefs and ways of life. I decided that for this paper, it would be interesting to look at how the ideas of mythology, luck and fate pertain to the culture of the Chinese and Native Americans in these two books. I would also like to look at how Asian Americans and Native Americans assimilate and change their cultural beliefs and practices into the larger "culture" of the United States. The Oxford Dictionary defines fate as: "1 a power regarded as predetermining events unalterably. 2 a the future regarded as determined by such a power. b an individual's appointed lot. C the ultimate condition or end of a person or thing (that sealed our fate)". The aspect of the story that especially stood out for me was the way in which Winnie chalked up everything that happened to her, good and bad, to the state of her luck at the time. It seems as if Winnie believed that she was fated to have bad luck from beginning of her life because of her mother. She tells of her mother marrying into a family where she became the "double second wife" which means she replaced the first "second" wife who had died. Replacing a dead wife was believed to put a woman into a bad-luck position, so perhaps Winnie believed she had inherited her bad luck from her mother and was "doomed" from birth. Winnie even attributes her horrible marriage to Wen Fu as a result of her bad luck.

Implications for current and prospective teachers Essay
For educators of the present generation, it is very important to understand how this particular procedure of teaching should affect the process by which they are implying the lessons of grammar and writing within their students. There are at least seven ways of implying the lessons on the students with regards grammar and writing as per suggested in the study performed by the group of Sugrue: 1. Engage students in writing, writing, and more writing. -This involves assisting the students through continuous practice of writing, editing and revising their own written works. Through their own observation upon their own works, they are able to see the mistakes that they usually make and thus are able to make amends with regards the said mistakes in writing through the implications of the lessons that they learn from grammar curriculums. Immerse students in good literature, including literature that is particularly interesting or challenging syntactically. -Reading practices also help in this primary learning procedure. Of course, through the written works of others, there are those grammatical styles that could be carefully learned by writing beginners. Through the examples of otherââ¬â¢s writings; they could be able to identify the correct and effective ways of writing their own ideas. 3. Teach relevant aspects of grammar within the context of studentsââ¬â¢ writing. -the educatorââ¬â¢s ability to help the students identify the clarity of the importance of creatively putting their ideas into writing shall also make the students aware of their effective practices in writing. Introduce only a minimum of terminology. Much of this terminology can be learned sufficiently through incidental exposure as you discuss selected words and structures in the context of literature and writing. -Teaching the grammar basics gradually to the learners indeed helps in inculcating the lessons within the minds of the students in a primarily gradual procedure that would most likely help them carefully store the lessons within their minds more effectively. Emphasize those aspects of grammar (as appropriate to writersââ¬â¢ needs) that are particularly useful in helping students revise sentences to make them more effective (this may include how to reorder and otherwise manipulate sentence elements and how to expand and combine sentences. ) -expansion of sentences through the procedures of writing and applying grammar lessons within the practice shall help in producing a much more sensible written output. 6. Also emphasize (as appropriate to writersââ¬â¢ needs) those aspects of grammar that are particularly useful in helping students edit sentences for conventional mechanics and appropriateness. (This may include concepts like subject, verb, and predicate; clause and phrase; grammatical sentences versus run-ons and fragments; and usage. ) -The mechanical approach in writing could be strongly enhanced by the ability of the students in identifying the basic grammatical errors within the context of their own written works. Teach needed terms, structures, and skills when writers need them, ideally when they are ready to revise at the sentence level or to edit. -It is necessary for the educators to instill within the learners the importance of carefully assessing the terms that they use in their works to convey the message that they intend to share to their readers. Strongly, this means that through writing and learning grammatical basics, sending messages to readers effectively could be applied by the students in a systematic procedure.

Compare and Contrast The Writings of Confucius Hammurabi and The Book of the Dead essays
Compare and Contrast The Writings of Confucius Hammurabi and The Book of the Dead essays Compare and Contrast The Writings of Confucius, Hammurabi, and The Book of the Dead Three of the most famous writings from ancient civilizations are the writings of Confucius, Hammurabi's code of laws, and Egypt's Book of the Dead. At first, they seem very different, they're from different times, regions, and religions, but they all offer a peek into what values ancient people considered important. One of the values that all three civilizations is justice and fairness. I feel that this is best viewed in Hammurabi's laws. All of the penalties for the crimes are very stiff, but fair. I feel that it is fair that "If he has broken the limb of a patrician, his limb shall be broken" It's like in the Bible "An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth." In Egypt, in the Book of the Dead, a man couldn't proceed into the after life unless he was found innocent of any wrong doing on Earth. In Confucius' writings, he never actually says the word "justice", but he does say "Great Man cherishes excellence; Petty Man, his own comfort. Great Man cherishes the rules and regulations; Petty Man special favors." To me, that mean "Great Man is fair, Petty man is unfair." The second of these three values is responsibility and respect to one's family and elders, and responsibility and respect to others families and elders. This is most evident in Confucius' writings. He is constantly stressing family values and responsibility. One quote that shows this is "Let the sole sorry of your parents be that you might become ill." This stresses personal responsibility and respect to your parents. Hammurabi showed responsibility by saying "If a builder has built a house for a man, and has not made his work sound, and the house he built has fallen, and caused the death of the man's son, the builder's son shall be put to death." That quote shows a man's responsibility for himself and his family. In Egypt, during the ritual of the dead, ...
